Hardtail Party Bikepacking Frame

About a year ago Steve from Hardtail Party reached out to me about building him a frame for bikepacking.

He wanted maximum tire clearance, supple ride quality, and minimum chainstay length. He had the geo numbers he wanted and so this project was born.

So I reached out to ReRoot Outdoors to make some custom frame bags and built a custom rack.

Now, this was during the height of pandemic parts shortages and it took a while to get all that was needed, and I wasn’t able to build it up as I envisioned it until after getting the frame back from Steve. When I build and finish a frame, I tend to have a whole bike in mind I wanted to highlight the brown-silver colors with some polished parts. After much waiting, I put on Paul Love Levers and Klampers, Velocity Dually 29” rims, hubs, headset, crank, and chainring all from White Industries, and a Wolf Tooth seatpost clamp to keep the silver theme going. I wish there were more polished droppers and quality suspension forks to match.

Yes, those are wing-screws on the TT, which I use in the ReRoot frame bag in harder to reach locations, as they allow a tool-free way of securely mounting the bolt-on bag.

Frame, bags, and rack are for sale for $2300. The only use was Steve’s bikepacking trip, so it has very minor wear in the powdercoat.

Frame would match a general medium size.

Geometry numbers taken on a 130mm Pike 29” at no sag:

Head Angle: 66
Effective Seat Angle: 76
Reach: 430mm
Stack: 655mm
Chainstay length: 415-435mm
Tire clearance: 29x2.8” (3.0” will fit as shown in the above photo, but not much room for mud)
Head Tube Length: 115mm
Max dropper: 175mm
Seat tube length: 375mm
Effective Top Tube: 627mm

With the components shown in the top photo (with bags and rack) it is $6,800. Other build options are certainly available!
